In 1968, Canton Visiting Nurse Association (CVNA), established the Canton Public Health Service Scholarship for individuals pursuing higher education in public health. In 1980, a follow-up study found that over 75% of Scholarship recipients were ‘Paying It Forward’ by working in: analytical chemistry, nursing, rehabilitation, physical and respiratory therapy and psychology.
Today, Canton Community Health Fund, Inc. celebrates the spirit of CVNA’s commitment to the future by providing financial support to Canton residents pursuing further education, training or certification in health-related or public service/safety fields.
WHO CAN APPLY?
You must be a Canton resident pursuing further education, training or certification in health-related or public service/safety fields in order to apply for a Pay It Forward Scholarship.

WHAT TYPE OF DOCUMENTATION IS ACCEPTABLE AS PROOF OF CANTON RESIDENCY?
All applicants will be required to submit documentation of their residency in Canton. Acceptable forms of documentation include: Driver’s License, Passport, Voter Registration Card, current utility bill, Government-issued ID with current address.
WHEN TO APPLY.
Pay It Forward Scholarship applications are accepted once a year, beginning March 1, 2025.
WHAT IS THE DEADLINE TO APPLY?
All applications must be received no later than April 30 2025 in order to be considered.
WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM/MAXIMUM PAY IT FORWARD SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE?
Pay It Forward Scholarships are based upon the merits of the individual’s application.
PURPOSES FOR WHICH SCHOLARSHIPS MAY BE AWARDED.
Pay It Forward Scholarships are an investment in the well-being of our community, through CCHF’s financial support of Canton residents who are pursuing further education in healthcare or public service/safety.
Pay It Forward Scholarships cover tuition expenses, The Scholarship check will be made out to your school or certification program. Written permission must be submitted for any additional expenses, such as books/supplies, lab fees/course materials, or other fees/expenses deemed necessary by your school or program.
PURPOSES FOR WHICH SCHOLARSHIPS WILL NOT BE AWARDED.
Transportation, groceries, meal plans, student debt, clothes or any expenses not directly related to tuition.
CRITERIA FOR EVALUATING PAY IT FORWARD APPLICATIONS.
Applications are evaluated by CCHF’s Board of Directors, based upon how closely they complement CCHF’s Mission and Strategic Goals. All applicants will be notified, in writing, of the Board’s final decision by May 31, 2025.
We reserve the right to verify any and all information provided in your Application, and may follow up with you to get additional details.
DEADLINE FOR USE OF SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS.
All Scholarship funds must be used between June/2025 to December/2025.
If you are unable to use the Pay It Forward Scholarship for its intended purpose(s), the funds must be returned to CCHF no later than December 31, 2025. Failure to properly use or return undistributed funds will disqualify you from applying for future funding.
