Award Winners Honored for Their Work to Enhance Health & Well-Being of the Canton Community
Canton, CT June 13, 2022 …. Canton Community Health Fund(CCHF), today announced the distribution of nearly $50,000 in grants to nonprofits that benefit the health and well-being of Canton’s residents and scholarships to individuals pursuing careers in a health-related field.
Chairperson Ann Bryan: “During the ongoing COVID pandemic, CCHF’s award recipients used their talents and commitment to the Canton community to positively impact the lives of our neighbors, friends and family. As these individuals and organizations move forward in their missions, careers and lives, we are proud to fund their endeavors as they, and we all, move into the future with purpose, determination and promise.”
The following Canton High School graduating seniors each received $1,500 Dr. Diter’s Memorial Scholarshipsto pursue careers in health-related fields:
Amanda May will attend University of Massachusetts; Brianna Connolly will attend University of Rhode Island; Gabrielle Abramson will attend Drexel University in Pennsylvania.
The following grants, from $1,600 up to $10,000, were awarded to a diverse group of non-profit organizations which will continue to make a significant impact on Canton’s residents throughout the year:
- Canton Food Bank:Purchase groceries to supplement donated food.
- Canton Emergency Fuel Bank:Assist in payment of heating/electric expenses.
- Focus on Canton:Provide temporary assistance for payment of utilities, rent, medical bills.
- Canton Public Library:Develop a ‘Memory Care’ collection of materials providing resources for both residents and caregivers.
- Canton Police Department:Purchase 2 handheld thermal cameras to aid in locating lost/missing persons.
- SpiritHorse Therapeutic Riding Center:Riding lessons for individuals with disabilities.
- Arc of Farmington Valley:Provide ‘Art Therapy’ sessions to clients in the Day Services program in Canton.
- Gifts of Love: Purchase food for food pantry/weekend backpack program, for Canton residents.
- Canton High School:Sponsor a Substance Free graduation party that promotes safety and belonging.
