CANTON, CT., September 21, 2009 – The Directors of the Canton Community Health Fund (CCHF) announced today the awards of grant money to fund special programs at two Canton organizations.  Both the Canon Public Library and Focus on Canton received checks totaling over $6,000 to assist in funding two different programs that benefit the residents of Canton.  These grants are two of a total of nine that the CCHF will award this year.

In the first award, the Children’s Services group at The Canton Public Library was awarded grant money to fund a novel series of yoga story hours that are scheduled to start in December of 2009 and run through May 2010.  This story hour has a special curriculum targeted to benefit children aged 2-6 years old and their parents and caregivers.  This new program will be led by child educators and certified yoga instructors from The Little Green Tambourine.  The funds provided by the CCHF will be used to pay for a total of five classes as well as the library materials required to support the program. The yoga story hour will be held at the Canton Public Library starting in December and will run monthly through May 2010.

The second grant was given to the community organization Focus on Canton to support their ongoing programs that assist residents of Canton who may be single parent families, lower income, elderly, disabled, or people in need of one-time only assistance.  Focus on Canton is dedicated to assisting and enabling the residents of Canton to maintain a good quality of life by providing with needs not otherwise met.  Funds granted by the CCHF will be used to assist in the purchase of all types of medical related supplies such as hearing aids, eyeglasses, as well as provide emergency financial assistance for rent, utility bills, and other essential services for those in need. Focus on Canton is a non-profit organization comprised of citizens of Canton including representatives from the Board of Selectmen, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Rotary Club, and Kawanza.

Since its founding, the Canton Community Health Fund has been a source of financial support for numerous non-profit Canton organizations and groups. Over the past 5 years, The Canton Community Health Fund has distributed financial support totaling over $150,000  to Canton organizations and groups in need of assistance.
