Two graduating Canton High School graduates receive grants to pursue a career in a health related field
CANTON, CT., June 16, 2009 – The Directors of the Canton Community Health Fund announced today the names of this year’s two recipients of the Dr. Diters Memorial Scholarship. The Dr. Diters Memorial Scholarship provides annual financial grants to residents of Canton based on merit, scholarship and community commitment. To qualify for this prestigious award, a recipient must be a graduate of Canton High School and/or a resident of the Town of Canton, and must be planning to pursue a career in a health related field.
This year’s scholarship awards were presented to Paige Hammond and Lisa Sevetz. Both are class of 2009 Canton High School graduates who have demonstrated high academic achievement, commitment to the community, and have plans to pursue their education in a health related field.
Ms. Hammond is the Canton High School Class of 2009 Valedictorian and has plans to attend the University of Rochester with a major in biology. Ms. Sevetz will be attending Saint Josephs College with a major in nursing.
Since its founding, the Dr. Diters Memorial Scholarship Canton Community Health Fund has been a source of financial support for the further education of numerous Canton residents. As a sign of its success, the first recipient of this award is now a practicing pediatrician.
